If you are planning a bathroom renovation for your home, without doubt, adding a set of copper sinks to your plans would be a very intelligent move for your house’s good looking cause . In recent years these beautiful sinks have been gaining a lot of acceptance among the American and European house holders and builders who have come to recognize the intrinsic beauty and charm of these handmade Mexican pieces of art.

Because when you get one of these original copper sinks from Mexico you are also bringing and installing real mexican art at home. A kind of art that could be called “functional - art”, a piece of hammered copper that besides greeting your eyes every morning with its charming looks will also serve you in your everyday activities as a regular commercial sink would do.

These Mexican copper sinks are made by hand from a raw copper plate that after being heated for hours in a fire is carefully hammered by the artisan until the copper plate transforms into a copper vessel sink. But this is not all the process, copper on the surface of the new sink must be protected from the elements so it won’t get green or rapidly tarnish after just one month of use. The way Mexican artisans solve this problem is by applying something that is called “patina” to the surface under heat. This is not a common commercial varnish as some people think but a “chemical process” that protects the sink’s surface and at the same time gives each of the copper sinks their characteristic color and durability. In other words they don’t simply paint the sink but they make the sink’s surface that color you can see.

How to take care of a copper sink you just installed at home? It’s really easier than you think. You just need to clean the sink with a regular soap and a soft sponge or clothe. The only thing you should be very careful about using is for example a rough metal fiber that could scratch the surface or some corrosive substances as chlorine or vinegar. They are very bad for your copper sink. So stay away from these substances and your sink will be totally safe and will keep it’s charming looks for a very long time.

There are many models of copper sinks available in the market, from ovals and round ones to squares and conical copper sink shapes. Some people prefer to get their copper sinks simple and without figures on the wall. But if you are more into having some figures on the copper sink you can find them with fish, grapes, stars, etc. It’s all matter of your taste and how nice and charming you want the look for your bathroom once you have installed one of these beautiful copper sinks.
